Guiding the Church

It’s my job as leadership in this congregation to let you know when we’re succeeding and when we’re failing, and it’s also my job to help guide us into the future. That’s honestly the majority of what I do every week, day in and day out. I help facilitate these hard conversations and encourage and ask these hard questions.

2023 was a busy year.

In 2022 we took a bit of a break from the forward momentum after COVID, using a Sabbath of a year to help us rejuvenate our spirit and our hope in the Lord and the future of the church. And I think we’ve found it. In 2023, the Elders had a retreat in February where we really narrowed down a mission statement.

Our previous mission statement was excellent in meaning, but it was long and difficult to memorize and no one could tell me what it was. So the elders got together to discuss just what this church means and how we go about our ministry together, and that’s the new benediction that we’ve been saying since April.

We love all. We serve everyone. We grow together as a vibrant community in Christ.

We grow together. Which is squarely where we’ll be in 2024. We have seen more visitors to our little church in the last 5 months than I can count. Every single Sunday since August we have had someone new walk through these doors and join us in our worship services. Some have stayed, and some haven’t. Some have found a home here, while others were seeking something different. But that means is we’re on the radar.

In 2024 I know we’ll take a much heavier focus on evangelism and learning how to do evangelism well. We’ll start to put systems in place to bring new participants into the fold of our congregation so they can be just as much family as the people we already know.

In 2024 we’ll start to ask some of the hard questions and attempt to seek some answers with God by our side. It’s no secret that our budget has been in deficit for the last 3 years by a significant amount. And while the board and finance team works to keep that deficit to a minimum, our congregation cannot survive in its current state like that for long.

We’re going to have to ask questions about what we want our future to look like.

What church might look like in 2026 going forward.

How creative we can get in our ministry to Cheyenne, WY and beyond.

These are the hard questions we’re really going to begin to explore in 2024. We’re going to be on our knees, praying ceaselessly as we listen to our Creator for answers and direction, and then we’re going to begin to implement some of these changes going forward.

I can’t wait to see what God has in store for us next.
