It has been a crazy busy few months in this church, but you know what excites me more than the activities we’ve got going and the ones coming up? It’s the fact that there is still energy here, and there’s so much love to share with others.
We’re a church that has definitely weathered a few storms this year, ones that could have had a difficult and drastic impact on the life of the church, but we took them in stride, and I’m so very proud of you.
This upcoming year is the start of so many things, I can feel it in my bones. When we start something, we also know that some things have to end. And that’s where sadness and grief play roles that are so very difficult for us to work through. Not every ministry, not every tradition should be carried into the future with us. And this upcoming year is a time for discernment for us, where we listen for God’s leading pull and guiding direction that will take us where we need to go next.
We have been working hard in the last few years to prepare ourselves for the future that God wants us to have. To listen to God’s voice and calling to find our direction, our purpose, our vision, something we can wrap our fingers around and we can definitively say this is our ministry.
And we’re still not done with listening to that call. Advent is a wonderful time of year to listen for that voice, and to prepare our hearts to hear it. While we’re waiting, wondering, watching, witnessing, and worshipping, we can and will prepare our hearts and our minds and our bodies (individual and the church body) for whatever God has in store for us next.
Because we don’t know what that is yet.
We’re still dreaming. We’re still waiting. We’re still watching. We’re still wondering. We’re still witnessing.
And that’s an adventure in and of itself. One that’s scary, with risk but one that’s filled to the brim with hope. What will 2025 have in store for us?
