As 2009 began, Juanita Warren received Elder Emeritus status. Also, in 2009, an anonymous donation of $100,000 was received with no stipulations other than that it be used for the work of the church. After a congregational meeting held on July 12, 2009, members were given the opportunity to discuss and provide input on several proposals. Based on the input received, the Resource Team decided to do the alley paving and repair of the sanctuary PA system. This was in addition to the 10% allocated to Outreach.
The alley paving was completed, and upgrades to the audio and visual systems in both the sanctuary and E.V. Hall were completed by a team of Eric Townsend, Jason McMillan, J.R. Webster, and Chris McCoy, with Gene Gancze also installing extensive electrical work. With the addition of electrical cable, audio was piped to Fellowship Hall, the nursery, and the Rainbow Room (where Kid’s Worship Zone is held). Also, with the anonymous donation, a shower, washer, and dryer were installed in the men’s old bathroom of E.V. Hall for use by guests of Cheyenne Interfaith Hospitality Network. Lastly, a new lease was approved for a Xerox color copier for the Church office.
Communion service was changed by selecting Diaconate teams to serve once a month, rather than a month at a time. Teams were organized with a head and assistant deacon, who notified their team as to the Sunday they were scheduled to serve.
The Outreach Team expanded its services to the community by serving meals once a month to COMEA and renewing its commitment to the Cheyenne Interfaith Hospitality Network as well.
In honor of Helen Townsend Griffith, a gift was made by her family to the church, a beautiful painting, “I’ll Rise Again”, by Marilyn Todd Daniels. The painting noted Philippians 2:20, “In the name of Jesus, every knee shall bow.”, and was hung on the wall outside of the church office next to the pictures donated by Reverend and Mrs. Murray Frick.
